HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Minutes 1980-11-24 Special ' �7 MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY COUNCIL November 24 , 1980 A Special Meeting of the Friendswood City Council was called to order at 7 : 30 p.m. on Monday, November 24 , 1980 , with the following members present : Mayor Dale Whittenburg City Manager Jim Morgan I Councilman Loren Wood City Secretary Bobbie Henry Mary Brown -.. Paul Schrader With a quorum present , and with Councilmen Zeitler and Maaz , and Councilwoman Black Absent , the only business on the agenda was handled as follows : MOTION : (Schrader) To approve the following warrants for � payment : � Waste Disposal Fund � #490 - Lem Construction Co. $ 484 , 030 . 17 �° 492 - Texas Sterling/E. P. Brady Const. 9 ,500 . 18 � 493 - Exxon Pipeling Co. 3 499 22 � Second: Wood � Vote : Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED Mayor Whittenburg read a letter from Jeam Wren thinking the City for the placement of the traffic light at Sunset and Spreading Oaks. A second letter was from the Drainage District stating that per- mission is given for the City to use their facilities and equipment in the event af an emergency. The Mayor announced that following adjournment of the special meeting, a workshop session would be held to discuss the report from the committee which has been studying nuclear waste and other hazardous materials within the city. WORKSHOP NOTES - Members of the Hazardous Materials Committee , headed by Fred Krch, discussed with Council what controls they feel should be exercised by the City. The possibility of combining controls on pipe lines and on-site storage relative to all hazardous materials was also discussed, and it was dicided to authorize the City Attorney to meet with this committee and the pipeline committee to work out an ordinance which would acebmp��sh .�1h�5 . The question of what is being stored at Isotex at present , and where they are insofar as -their permit is concerned will be explored, possibly contacting the State Health Department for first-hand information.
