" CANVASSING ELECTION PROPOSITION: SHALL THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS , WITHDRAW FROM THE HOUSTON METROPOLITAN TRANSIT AUTHORITY? (Billy) Glines 229 Joseph Ray Loekridge 753 �I�O MOTION: (Maaz) For adoption of an order canvassing the city � officials election , declaring Mary Brown, Edward Zeitler, and Paul Schrader to be elected to the council positions , and calling a run-off election I between Ralph Lowe and Dale Whittenburg for mayor. � Second: Wood Vote : Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED _. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS - Mayor Lowe introduced County Commis- sioner Paul Hopkins , County Judge Ray Holbrook, State Senator Babe Schwartz , and State Representative Lloyd Criss , each of whom briefly addressed the meeting. OATH OF OFFICE FOR NEW OFFICIALS - Judge Holbrook administered the oath of office to Mary Brown , Edward Zeitler, and Paul Schrader , and the new officials took their seats at the council table. INTERMISSION - Mayor Lowe called an intermission during which refreshments were served , courtesy of Mrs . Zeitler, Mrs . Schrader, and Mr. Brown. Following the intermission, each of the unsuccessful candidates and Mr. Whittenburg were permitted to speak briefly regarding the election. RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL IN FRIENDSWOOD - In response to a request from the Mayor, Dr. Ed Iver of the Galveston County Health � Department explained the activities of Iso-Tex , a company I located 3/4 miles outside Friendswood in Brazoria County which manufactures medical supplies involving radioactive materials . �—� He reported that the company is in confomance with their state permit , that transportation of the products is under the authority of the State Health Department and EPA, and that there will be a meeting on April 17 at 7 : 30 p.m. at Westwood Elementary School where the subject will be further discussed. WILDERNESS TRAILS - REQUEST FOR ACCEPTANCE - A letter from the City Engineer sets forth several items which have not been completed and recommended that the subdivision not be accepted until these have been done. After some discussion , Council advised Dr. Boone that they would approve the subdivision at the next meeting provided: l. A sufficient amount of money (to be determined by the City Manager and the Engineer) is deposited with the city to cover building of sidewalks as shown on the plans , construc- tion of one intersection , and grade a drainage ditch; 2 . Lift station lien is cleared ; 3 . 20 ' road easement at back of subdivision is acquired for city ; 4 . Leaking blow-off valves are repaired; �I 5 . $78 , 500 deposited in escrow to take care of defective streets . ��" (Engineer is to specify streets which are to, be replaced) . SELECTION OF ENGINEER FOR HIKE & BIKE TRAILS ,� � I� M MOTION: (Maaz) To designate Coenco for engineering on the �1(1���I) bike trails as recommended by the City Manager. Second: Black Vote : FOR (5 ) Maaz , Black, Lowe , Wood, Zeitler, Schrader ABSTAINING (1) Brown MOTION CARRIED 3 CONSTRUCTION OF SPCA ANIMAL SHELTER - Judge Holbrook has asked if the city wishes to participate in this project. Council asked Mr. Morgan to obtain some proposed figure which the city would be expected to commit , and so advise them next week.
