A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT
APPLICATION TO THE FIREHOUSE SUBS PUBLIC SAFETY
FOUNDATION SEEKING ELIGIBLE GRANT FUNDS TO OUTFIT ALL
PATROL VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS;
DESIGNATING THE CITY MANAGER AS THE CITY'S REPRESENTATIVE
IN SEEKING ELIGIBLE GRANT FUNDS; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.

WHEREAS, the mission of the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation (the
"Foundation") is to improve the life-saving capabilities of public safety organizations in
communities served by Firehouse Subs restaurants by providing funding, resources, and support
to such organizations; and
WHEREAS, the Friendswood Police Department ("Department"), a public safety
organization in a community served by a Firehouse Subs restaurant within a 10-mile radius, is
eligible to apply for a grant of up to FORTY-FIVE THOUSAND AND NO/100 DOLLARS
($45,000.00) from the Foundation; and
WHEREAS, the Department desires to apply for such a grant to purchase life-saving
equipment, namely, automated external defibrillators ("AEDs"); and
WHEREAS, equipping patrol vehicles with AEDs will enable the Department to provide
a rapid response and lifesaving treatment to individuals experiencing cardiac emergencies,
significantly increasing the chances of survival; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Friendswood, Texas, finds that the AEDs
requested by the Department will not only improve emergency response times by allowing officers
to administer life-saving treatment immediately upon arrival to a scene, but also fits squarely
within a funding area supported by the Foundation; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD,
STATE OF TEXAS:
Section 1. The facts and matters set forth in the preamble of this resolution are hereby
found to be true and correct.
Section 2. The City Council of the City of Friendswood, Texas, hereby authorizes and
approves the submission of a grant application to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation in
an amount of up to FORTY-FIVE THOUSAND AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($45,000.00) for the
purchase of AEDs.
Section 3. The City Council hereby designates and appoints the City Manager of the
City of Friendswood as the authorized official to apply for, accept, reject, alter, or terminate the
grant on behalf of the City.
Section 4. This resolution shall be effective immediately from and after its passage by
the City Council of the City of Friendswood.
