MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY COUNCIL April 4, 1977 A regular Meeting of the Friendswood City Council was!!held on April 4, 1977, at the City Hall at 7:30 p.m. with the following members present: I i Mayor Ralph Lowe — Councilman Tom Lay Councilman Paul Maaz Councilman Richard Haken With a quorum present, and with Councilmen Patton, Baker, and Zeitler absent, the following business was transacted: OPENING OF BIDS ON WATER LINE TO SUNMEADOW �a_r7 '� Construction: � �� Ben Felts Utility Contracting Co. $66,978.63 Uavid Wight Construction Co. Second: Lay j Vote: Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED ANNOUNCEMENTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE MAYOR 1 . A County 6ond Election will be held on May 10.. Judge Holbrook will be present at the next regular Council Meeting to make a presentation on the bond issue. 2. The U.S. Corps of Engineers will hold a public meetmng qn May 25 in the High School auditorium relative to Clear Creek. 3. The Jaycees candidate night was a successful undertaking with the Hanger Squares entertaining at intermission. 4. Candidates are reminded that one more campaigh expense report is to be filed with the City Secretary, 5. Refreshments will be served after new officials take oath of office. Hostesses are Johnnie Blanken , Sharon Maaz, and Bobbie Henry. PETITIQNS FROM THE AUDIENCE - Mrs. Joan Lanther, who lives at the intersection of Stee e and Judy Streets in Longwood Park, asked to have a fire hydrant repaired. She said it has been leaking for over a year. Mr. Morgan was directed to pursue the matter. ORDER DECLARING RESULTS OF CITY ELECTION - Mayor Lowe read the 7��7� order setting forth the following results of the April 2 electian : Council Position #2 Paul E. Second: Haken Vote: Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED OATH OF OFfICE - Mayor Lowe administered the oath of office to � Paul Maaz, Council Position #2; C1yde Raney, Council Position #4; and R. J. Blanken, Position #6 as winners in the election. REFRESHMENTS - SOCIAL )'�-7 7 COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROJECT - Mrs. Doris Heard asked for Council support of a newsletter spotlighting the May 25 public meeting by the Corps of Engineers to present latest plans for flood control on Clear Creek. The newsletter will be published by the College of the Mainland and will be paid for by funds from the Community Education Program. Council voiced support and Council- man Lay and Bobbie Henry were appointed to work with the group who will be compiling information for the publication. LIAISON POSITIONS fOR THE COMING YEAR - Mayor Lowe designated 7�' 7`f the fo lowing l�aison position for the Council : Police Department - Councilman Haken - Fire Department - Councilman Lay Library - Councilman Zeitler Parks and Community Counseling - Councilman Blanken Streets - Councilman Raney Finances - Councilman Maaz �6. �7 MULTIMODEL TRANSPORTATION STUDY - Councilman Raney stated that Yie WSU9.8 like to take necessary action to have Moore Road included in the area of this Study, and asked for authorization to make this request official . MOTION: (Maaz) To request the Attorney to prepare a resolution requesting that Moore Road be included in the Multimodel Transportation area, and that a copy of the resolution be sent to Galveston and Brazoria Counties. Second: Raney �ote: Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED RESIGNATION FROM PARKS & RECREATION BOARD - Councilman Blanken forma y resigne rom t e arks ecreation Board. Resigriation was accdpted by Council . PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED NEW ZONING ORDINANCE 7��77 MOTION: (Raney) To hold a public hearing on this ordinance on April 25. Second: Haken wote: Unanimous FOR MOTION CARRIED SALARY ADJUSTMENT FOR DISPATCHERS - Mr. Morgan was asked to review salaries of dispatchers in the Police Department and make a report to Council next week.
