MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY COUNCIL
September {�, 1974
The Friendswood Ci�ty Council met in a regular session on Monday, September 9,
1974, at 7;30 p.m, with the following members present:
Mayor Ralph L. Lowe
' Councilman Ralph Gonzalez �
; Councilman Wil.liam Patton

Councilman Benny Baker
Councilman Edward Zeitler
With a quorum present, and with Councilman Richard Haken absent, the following
businsss was transacted:

W ANNOUNCEMENTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE MAYOR
1 . Progress report on FM 518 widening, Mayor Lowe stated that all work is
scheduled to be completed this fall .
2. Councilman Patton has been instrumental in getting a sign erected honoring

3. Mayor Lowe commended those people who have been renovating the house at
Stevenson Park for use by the Youth Council .
4. Harry Granberry has reported that the Street Bond money will be in the bank
( by Monday of next week: ,

1 . School Safet Routes: Mrs. ,Bob Stt���r�t asked that the City, schools , and
parents ini iate a coo.perative program to improve .school �routes and to
control traffic during school hours. Some suggesti,ons she made were larger
Safety Route signs, changing speed signs to conform to new school times ,
more crossing guards (possibly utilizing parents or junior high school
students) , closing certain streets to through traffic or making them one-
way, She also mentioned shell bike trails, and Council.man Windler stated
: that this has been,,.a budget item for two or,three years and he would strongly
urge that these trails be included in the current street improvement program.
Mayor Lowe asked that Councilman Zeitler serve as Chairman of a committee, to

formulate definite plans, with the school , Police Chief Wright, Mrs, St��,
Mrs. Riley, and other interested persons , to solve this problem.
2. Clear Creek/Green Tee Terrace School Controvers,y: Mayor Carlton McCamb of
of Pearland made an appeal to Council to join with that City in asking that
Green Tee Ter.race be made a part of the Pearland School District rather than
the Clear Creek School District, A resolution to this effect was presented
for Council consideration.
3. Re ort from Youth Counselin Committee was given by Mrs. Sue Hutchings
covering movies , rock concerts, status of the park building project, and
other activities of this group.
4. Re ort from Builders Committee - Mr. Clyde Raney reported by letter on a
meeting of t is committee w erein they discussed problems of builders in
complying wi�h, City, building codes, how the inspections could be handled in
a more satisfactory manner, and setting a date for a second meeting.
