MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY COUNCIL
February 18� 1974
A Regular Meeting of the Friendswood City Counci1 was held at the City Hall
on Mondayy February .18� with the fo17owing members present: , , �

�.1 ANNOUNCEMENTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE MAYOR
1 . Mayor read a let�er from Representative Bob Casey re plans for meeting ��j!��
in Washington� D.C, with Mayors and other representatives from the C1ear
Creek Basin regarding expediting of drainage in this area. Mayor Lowe
reported that a11" mayors have been contacted, and that at least 15
peop1e wi11 make the trip on February 19-20 as a united group to get
this project moving.

3, Letter from Community Youth Counseling Board offering the name of Mr.
Bill Allan for appointment to the vo1unteer post of Youth Counselor.
Mr. Allan is Assistant to the Minister of the Friendswood Church of
Christ� and a teacher in the Friendswood High School . A resume of
his education and experiepce was .presented, and action was taken on
his appointment 7ater in the meeting.
4. Letter from L1oyd R. Ferguson,. Clear Creek Pub1ic Schoo1 Superintend-
ent�, to P�ayor Lowe, regarding the drugpproblem in Forest Bend� and
stating that it is reported �hat drugs are being distributed at the
park in Forest Bend and the teen center� and stating his concern.
P�TITIONS - Mrs, Annette Wi1liams requested that the new city park be
dedicated on March 17„ St. Patrick's Day� and that games and activities
� be p1anned for that Sunday afternoon. P�ayor Lowe appointed a committee
to work un �1ans for the event. Members: Mrs, !-tli�liams9 Benny Baker�
Ruby Ross�, Jean Ule1 ch 9 and a hi gh .s choo1 s tudent� Chi 1 ders.

MEETING WTTH- HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT FEBRUARY 14 - Mayor Lowe reported on a
meeting with the Highway Department �o discuss status of the FM 518 ,/
project, Drainage on FM 528 and 1ower FM 518� and in which the fact ��'�7
was brought out that long range plans of the Highway Department for
FM 518 included straightening the curve near Winding Way� which would
ne�essitate a 50 ft, right of way off the front of the two acres where
the City proposes to bui1d a Fire Station.

fu�ure the two acres be referred to as the "municipal site. "

two acres for two acres of the p�rk 1and where there are no trees so

proposed ond issues with Gounci1 and asked for their support.

on restrictions and supervision which can and should be exercised by
the City in its extraterritorial jurisdictian. ' �

FRONT END L�OADER - Councilman .�ken repo�ted �that he has followed up on the
matter� and reported that a sa1e of highway equipment wi11 be held in April
where the City would be abl'e �o purchase at base price through the County,

SEWER L,IPJE - h1r. Jim Eilers of Engineering Science reported that a 10" line
wi�be needed through Heritage Estates instead of the proposed 8"� there-
fore they would need another°week to complete °their presentation. .
