Home My WebLink AboutOrdinance No. 2025-14 ORDINANCE NO. 2025-14 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, AMENDING TERM OF OFFICE FOR POSITION NO. 1 OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD'S PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION TO MORE EFFECTIVELY STAGGER THE TERMS OF THE ENTIRE COMMISSION; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES INCONSISTENT OR IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND THE EFFECTIVE DATE. *********************************************************************************** WHEREAS, on November 7, 2022, the City Council passed Ordinance No. 2022-27, which, in part,changed the terms of the Planning and Zoning Commission(the"Commission")from three-year terms to two-year terms; and WHEREAS,such change resulted in the terms of office of five(5)Commissioners expiring in odd- numbered years and the terms of office of two(2)Commissioners expiring in even-numbered years;and WHEREAS,in an effort to more effectively stagger the terms of office of the Commission,it is the desire of the City Council to stagger such terms so that four(4) Commissioners will be appointed in odd- numbered years and three(3)Commissioners will be appointed in even-numbered years;and WHEREAS,to accomplish this,the person appointed to Position No. 1 shall serve a one-(1)year term commencing July 1,2025,and shall serve two(2)year terms thereafter;NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD,STATE OF TEXAS: Section 1. That the facts and matters set forth in the preamble of this ordinance are hereby found to be true and correct. Section 2. In the event any clause,phrase,provision, sentence, or part of this ordinance or the application of the same to any person or circumstance shall for any reason be adjudged invalid or held unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect, impair, or invalidate this ordinance as a whole or any part or provision hereof other than the part declared to be invalid or unconstitutional;and the City Council of the City of Friendswood,Texas,declares that it would have passed each and every part of the same notwithstanding the omission of any such part thus declared to be invalid or unconstitutional,whether there be one or more parts. Section 6. This ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage on second and final reading by the City Council of the City of Friendswood, Texas. Following a demanding interview process with top regional contractor companies, these students are poised to enter high-demand, well-compensated positions within the thriving petrochem-ical industry.Aaron Ennis, BCPC Signing Day Chair, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “This isn’t simply a job, it’s the beginning of a transformative journey for these young individuals. They are embarking on career paths that promise financial security, opportunities for advancement, and a promising future. For many participants, this op-portunity represents not just a first job but a crucial first step towards lasting success and financial independence. 4 REPORTER NEWS, MAY 14, 2025 Friendswood Rotary Club Distributes 175 “Stop the Bleed” kits The Friendswood Rotary Club recently completed a ser-vice project that involved purchasing and distributing 175 “Stop the Bleed” kits. These kits can stop life-threatening blood loss during an emergency and before medical help arrives. The kits are to serve as an enhancement to the AED kits that are found in schools, churches, and nursing homes/as-sisted care facilities. Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as 5 minutes. Emergency kits should be available to schools to help en- sure they have critical resources during emergencies. The club distributed the kits to local churches, day care facilities, nursing home/assisted living facilities, and Friendswood High School. Pearland junior second baseman Aidan Avalos sprints to first after laying down a perfect bunt up the first base line for an infield single on Friday night vs Summer Creek. The soft touch of Avalos allowed runner Walker Hurst to score from third base for an RBI. Avalos finished with two hits and one RBI and played excellent defense on second base in a 5-0 win and series sweep for Pearland. Between great defense and superb pitching from starters Grant Shepherd and Nico Partida, along with reliever Brady Brewer, the Oilers have yet to surrender a run through four playoff games.
