HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Minutes 1969-11-17 Regular i� � � C,� � i� - - _ _ � ' � MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY COUNCIL November 17, 1969 A regular meeting of the Friendswood City Council was held on November 17, 1969 in the Council Room. The following members were present: Ralph W. Somers Mayor George Prude Councilman Edward Stuart Councilman Ronald Hamil Councilman With a quorum presenty the following business was transacted; READING & APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes of the November 3, 1969 meeting approved as read, ANNOUNCEMENTS & COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE MAYOR 1 . The Council met with representatives of the Clear Creek Basin Authority on November 10, 1969, 2. Mr. Turner and other representatives of local chemical plants are to be invited to thedecember 1 Council Meeting. 3. The Special City Council Meeting of November 12, 1969, held with elected officials and other members of the Senior Class for Youth Appreciation Week was a most successful meeting, 4. On November 18, 1969 at 2:00 p.m. z the Historical Society of Texas will meet to dedicate two official Texas historical markers, one for the Galveston Medical College, the other for Ashbell Smith Build- ing--"Old Red. " Friendswood is to be represented by Mrs . Lanmon and Mrs. Giammalva. 5. On November 18, the Houston-Galveston Area Council will .meet at 9�30 a.m. at the Federal Land Bank Building in Houston. 6. On November 18, at 6:30, the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring an Industrial Park Study at the bank. 7. A report has been received from the Drainage Committee on present project. 8. The Mayor met with the Library Board on November 11 . A unanimous decision was made that the Library open as soon as possible with the dedication to be held at a later date. The carpet is to be laid this week; the building should be ready for occupancy the first of the year. PETITIONS & COMMUNICATIONS 1 . Philip Maloney appeared before Council to request that something be done to improve the operation of the lift station in .Imperial Estates II . 2. Mr. Fisher requested further clarification of commercial water rates for trai7er parks. OLD BUSINESS l . On Friday, November 14, 1969, a hearing was held on the condemnation of the Hausman. property for a water tank site. Commissioners appointed by the County Judge were: Mr. Ray Williams of League City, Mr. Bill McAninch and Mr. Truman Taylor of Friendswood. The MAI Appraiser hired by the City valued the land at $5,000. Mr. Hausman's appraiser gave an appraisal of $9,500. The Commissioner's appraisal was $7,000. Cowncil 's decision as to whether they wished to accept the $7,000 figure was delayed for a week. - - ___ _ _ _ -- _ _ _ �_�, _ _ _._ __. _._ 2. Councilman Hamil is to work with a committee to set up a plan on how to administer the horse arena. SPECIAL COMMITTEE REPORTS Garbage Committee - Councilman Prude's committee report is being finalized. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS 1 . Utilities: Mr. Toon reported that the blocks are up on the new blower building for #2 sewer plant. 2. Streets: Councilman Hamil reported street work is currently under- way on South Clear Creek Drive and ditching is being done on Shady Nook. ORDINANCES - Ordinance No. 128 - Parking Ordinance - Third and Final y` Readi nc� ���.�,' Councilman Prude moved to approve the Ordinance on third and final reading. Councilman Hamil seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously, **OMISSION (Approved for insertion at January 5, 1970 Regular Meeting) RESOLUTIONS Second notice on violation of Weed Ordinance - Lot 15, Imperial Gardens - Motion to approve the resolution was made by Councilman Hamil , seconded ��` by Counci7man Prude, and carried unanimously. WARRANTS � Councilman Stuart made a motion that the following warrants be approved for payment: M&0: 4757 thru 4782; 4784 thru 4790; 4792 and 4794 G&A: 3505, 3506, 3517, 3518, 3519; 3521 thru 3544; 3546 thru 3552; 3554 thru 3576.
