A regular meeting of the Friendswood City Council was held October 5, 1964; 7:30 P.M. , at the High School Conference room. Present were Harry Wagner, Harry Hatcher, Arden Hill and H.K. Speck. Also present were Coleman Carter, Lou Wortham; members of the Planning Commission, Water District #15, Drainage Board; representatives of the Woodlawn-Shadowbend area; and W. Fortune and C. Salter of the Shell Recreation Park. The first forty-five minutes of this meeting were for the purpose of discussing Engineering firms and was for members of the City Council, Drainage Board, Planning Commission and Water District #15 only. ' The minutes of the September 21, 1964 meeting were corrected to read that the recommendation of George Coe to remove stop signs at Woodlawn-Shadowbend intersection was tabled as well as his recommendation ' concerning Auxiliaries and commissions: Minutes stood approved as read and corrected by motion of H.K. Speck, second Harry Hatcher, motion unanimous. ;' Mr. Bodenhammer acted as spokesman for a group of interested citizens ' from the Woodlawn-Shadawbend area. They are strongly opposed to he removal af two stop signs at the Woodlawn-Shadowbend intersection ± ' and feel that every intersection in the area around the schools should , have stop signs and that they be enforced. It was decided to form a ` committee consisting of Norman Chennault from that area; Tony Banfield and Dean Saurenman agreed to get a representative from Lori Woods and Imperial Estates. This committee will study, make a map showing their recommendations for stop signs and -speed limits to be given to Council. Council will then enact an ordinance to cover these requirements. Harry Hatcher moved that Lawrence Cline have George Coe put back the twn stop signs from Woodlawn-Shadowbend intersection until a full study of their need is made, H.K. Speck seconded the motion and it was carried , unanimously. Mr. Fortune of the Board of Directors of Shell Recreation Park and Mr. Salter, business manager, questioned the proposed mandatory garbage-trash pickup. They have facilities for proper care of this; pit, burners; and complete fogging equipment. It was explained that when such an ordinance is enacted, it will allow exceptions, by permit, for those who can prove adequate and sanitary disposal of their garbage- trash. Mayor Wagner reports that the Texas Municipal League Conferences are very informative and useful.
