, A regular meeting of the Friendswood City Council was held March 26, 196Z.
Present were: Mayor, Paul O'Farrell, Councilmen; Kenneth Camp, Leon Brown,
Pete Workman and Linn Eignus. Also present were Chief Arden Hill, Norman
Chennault and Claire Kuiper.
Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Financial statement $1, 275. 65
Paul asked Arden to bring before the council his purpose in attending the meeting.
Arden expressed his concern regarding keeping Bill Merchant on as a deputy. He
mentioned several incidents that had happened recently, that he felt were not in the
best interest of law enforcement in Friendswood. Several councilmen expressed
their views concerning this matter. Leon stated that he felt that two or three of the
council should talk to Bill Merchant regarding his position as a law enforcement
officer here in Friendswood. After considerable discussion on this matter, Kenneth
Camp moved that Mr, Merchant be suspended imrnediately pending a hearing before
- the Mayor, City Secretary and Chief Arden Hill. Motion seconded by Leon Brown.
Motion carried.
Norman Chennault expressed his willingness to resign if it is the desire of the council,
or Chief. He was assured that his services were needed,
I Paul reported that all necessary papers for annexing the protective band around
Friendswood, had been prepared and were ready for filing. He stated that the
following ordinance needed to be adopted to complete the annexation plans.
(Ordinance will be attached to minutes. ) This ordinance will be #12, Kenneth Camp
moved that this ordinance be adopted. Motion seconded by Pete Workman. Motion
c arried.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned.
