HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Minutes 1962-03-12 Regular - MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF MAR.CH 12, 1962 I I A regular meeting of the Friendswood City Council was held March 12, 1962. Present were May�r- Pro- tem; Leon Brown and Councilmen: Kenneth Camp, Pete Workman, and Linn Eignus. Also present were Mr. Bill Molley and Mr. Johnny Wolf, representives of the Friendswood Volunteer Fire Dept. Leon asked for a discussion of old business. Linn reported that he had called Mr. Charles Mills of Community Public Service Co. and ordered the installation of the nine mercury vapor street lights. Mr. Mills stated that his company would be happy to work the rates on a flexible basis until it could be determined which rate would be most benificial to the city. Installation of these lights will begin as soon as possible, Leon reported that the voting machines, to be used in the coming city election, had been ordered, but that the ballots had not been. The meeting was then opened to the representives of the Fire Dept. Mr. Wolf stated that he and Mr. Molley had been sent by the F, D, to discuss some of the Dept'.s. problems with the council. One of these being the problem of the public following the fire trucks when the�r are on fire calls. He pointed out that in recent months this has become a serious problem. He memtioned that it had been ' discussed with the local law enforcement officers and that they had stated that ' � they do not presently have the proper authority to control this type of traffic. Mr. Wolf and Mr. Molley, in behalf of the Fire Dept. , requested the council to pass an ordinance making it unlawful for persons not members of the Fire Dept. , to follow or preceed firet'rucks on fire_calls. After considerable discussion it was agreed that the council would take this problem under advisement and that an ordinance would be passed if it were deemed necessary. Linn reported that the Galveston County Mosquit� Control had requested a letter . . authorizing their planes to make low level flights over the incorporated area of Friendswood. Pete Workman moved that the secretary be instructed to write this letter. Motion seconded by Kenneth Camp. Motion carried. A discussion was held concerning the proposed expansion of the city limi�s of Friendswood. Leon pointed out that the mayor had attended several meetings in the county, concerning the expansion of towns in this area and it was pointed out that League City has intentions of annexing all propeety in this end of the county that we do not wish to take into our city. Kenneth Camp moved that Leon and Paul be authorized to p.roceed to draw up the nece�rv leffal descri�tion and papers necessary to �.nnex.a pr.otective.band, azaund the pre.sent.b.+a.�undary of the-.Eriends:_wood Ind. School Dist. P. e'te WQrkman s,ecanded=the motion. Motion caf�ried, , Linn reported that the following candiates had filed for the coming city election: For mayor; Kenneth Ca.mp.
