Install Additional Speed Limit Signs on Falling Leaf Avenue
City staff conducted a traffic study and found that there is currently only one 20 MPH Speed Limit Sign
on the eastbound side. The Traffic Review Committee has reviewed the issues of speeding and the lack
of Speed Limit signs and recommend adding additional signage to inform drivers of the speed limit.
Ordinance 300 should be amended to reflect the proposed changes outlined above and per the attached
descriptions and diagrams. If you have any questions, please let me know or contact Steve Vavrecka in
the Public Works Department at 281-996-3384.

Rf: Ordinance 300 2019-02
Action: Speeding on Falling Leaf Avenue
City staff has reviewed data of the traffic counters and physical road conditions and found out
that there is currently only 1-20 MPH Speed Limit Sign on the eastbound side of this road near
the intersection of Baker Road. The section of Falling Leaf from Baker Road to Wilderness
Trails is reduced to the 20 MPH section while Baker Road and Falling Leaf Avenue from
Greenbriar Avenue to Sunset Drive are both 30 MPH.
The Traffic Review Committee has reviewed the issues of speeding and the lack of Speed Limit
signs and feel that additional Speed Limit signs as shown in exhibit 2019-02-06 would help to
inform the drivers of the change in speed in the section.
The Engineering Department agrees with this assessment and recommends that the City Manager
accept this Ordinance 300 Request.

TRAFFIC COMMUTEE EVALUATION
Date: 6119fl019
Traffic Request No.: 2019-02
Request:
Installation of Speed Bumps, sidewalks, and or more speed limit signs due to the speeding going on right
before and right after school.
Engineering Findings:
Investigation has shown that the (20 MPH) area between Wilderness Pines and Baker Road are 85% at 30.6
MPH. On Baker Road at the 30 MPH the 85% is 32.7. Also discovered is that Falling Leaf is 30 MPH from
Sunset Drive to Greenbriar Avenue, then 20 MPH from Greenbriar Avenue to Baker Road, and Baker Road is
30 MPH from Falling Lead Avenue to FM 2351. There is also a total of 1 Speed limit sign on the Falling Leaf
Avenue stretch of road at Baker Road. It is the opinion of the Engineering Department that more speed limit
signs should be placed as shown in Exhibit 2019-02-06 and use the Speed Limit Sign as shown in Exhibit
2019-02-07.
