MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD CITY COUNCIL THAT WAS HELD ON

Mayor Smith called the meeting to order.
SPECIAL SESSION
""" A continuation of a discussion was held by Council regarding the proposed FY2008-09 General Operating
Budget for the City of Friendswood. The City's Departments presented information regarding their
Department's budget request and/or budget cuts.
A discussion was held regarding various projects and funding streams to be used to fund the proposed
budget.
A discussion was held regarding bonding capabilities, property tax rate and projecting revenues and
expenditures.
A discussion was held requesting the possibility of increasing the property tax rate to fund projects that
have been identified.
A discussion was heid regarding using some of the reserve funds for various projects. Council discussed
implementing alarm permit fees and the charge for residential property to be less than commercial
property.
A discussion continued regarding fees for fire alarm calls. Staff will work out the details for the fee of$24
to$48 and discuss looking at one to two cents tax increase to fund the project.
The possibility of consolidating polling places was looked at, would like to hold a public hearing for input.
Staff will work on this information and bring back to Council at the August 18, 2008, work session.
