HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Order 1982-04-05 - Declaring Election Results ORDER DECLARING RESULTS OF CITY OFFICIALS ELECTION AND CALLING RUN-OFF ELECTION FOR COUNCIL POSITION #5 STATE OF TEXAS CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD On this the 5th day of April, 1982 , the City Council of the City of Friendswood, Texas , convened in regular session open to the public at the regular meeting place thereof with the following members present, to-wit: Dale Whittenburg, Mayor Robert Wicklander, Councilman Edward Zeitler, Councilman Loren Wood, Councilman Todd Stewart , Councilman Bobbie Henry, City Secretary and the following absent: , constituting a quorum, and among other proceedings had were the following: Councilman J L(/.l' 6 .. introduced a resolution and order and moved its adopfion. The motion was seconded by Councilman � , and the motion carrying with it the adoption of a resolution and order prevailed by the following vote : Ayes : Noes : Q The resolution is as follows : There came on to be considered the returns of an election held on the 3rd day of April, 1982 , for the purpose of electing the hereinafter named officials , and it appearing from said returns , duly and legally made, that there were cast at said election 2322 valid and legal votes ; that each of the candidates in said election received the following votes : Name of Candidate Total Number of Votes Received FOR MAYOR: Ralph L. Zeitler 922 FOR COUNCIL POSITION #5 Jan Jordan 1014 Sandra L. Quinn 657 Louis E. Hackney 461 Write-in : Kent Ballard 1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS : That said election was duly called; that notice of said election was given in accordance with law, and that said election was held in accordance with law, and that whereas no candidate for the Council Position #5 received a majority of the votes , a run-off election becomes necessary between Jan Jordan and Sandra Quinn , the two candidates receiving the greatest number of votes. Said election shall be held on the 24th day of April, 1982 , in accordance with the City Charter of the City of Friendswood, and polling places and election judges for each precinct shall be as follows : Precinct 56 , Friendswood City Hall , 109 Willowick, John Williams as Presiding Judge . Precinct 57 , Westwood Elementary School , 506 West Edgewood, Clarence White as Presiding Judge. Precinct 60 , Friendswood Junior High School , 402 Laurel, Ruth Prengle as Presiding Judge . The polls at each of the above designated polling places shall on said Election Day be open from 7 : 00 o ' clock a.m. to 7 : 00 o ' clock p.m. Bobbie C. Henry is hereby appointed Clerk for absentee voting. The absentee voting for the above designated election shall be held at the office of the City Secretary, City Hall , 109 Willowick , within said City and said place of absentee voting shall remain open for at least eight hours on each day for absentee voting which is not a Saturday, a Sunday, or an official State holiday, beginning on the 14th day of April and continuing through the 20th day of April. Said place for absentee voting shall remain open between the hours of 8 : 30 a.m. and 5 : 00 p.m. on each day for said absentee voting. The above described place for absentee voting is also the absentee clerk' s mailing address to which ballot applica- tions and ballots voted by mail may be sent. Absentee voting, both by personal appearance and by mail , shall be by paper ballots . Notice of said election will be given in accordance with the terms of the Election Code and immediately after said election is held the officers holding same shall make returns of the results thereof to the Mayor of this city as required by the Election Code. A copy of this order shall serve as a writ of election which shall be delivered to the above appointed Presiding Judges for said election. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in accordance with the votes cast at the election of April 3 , that Ralph L. Lowe was duly elected Mayor, Leon Brown was duly elected to Council Position 1, Evelyn Newman to Council Position 3 , and said above named parties are hereby declared duly elected to said respective offices subject to the taking of their oaths and filing bond as provided by the laws of the State of Texas . It is further found and determined that in accordance with the order of this governing body the Secretary posted written notice of the date , place and subject of this meeting on the bulletin board located in the City Hall , a place convenient and readily accessible to the general public , and said notice having been so posted and remaining posted continuously for at least 72 hours preceding the scheduled time of said meeting.
