HomeMy WebLinkAboutCC Order 1970-07-06 - Declaring Election Results ORDER DECLARING RESULTS OF CITY ELECTION THE STATE OF TEXAS 1 COUNTY OF GALVESTON CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD On this the 6th day of July, 1970, the City Council of the City of Friendswood, Texas, convened in regular session at the regular meeting place thereof with the following members present, to wit: Edward F. Stuart , Mayor James E. Mager , Councilman Ronald Hamil , Councilman Thomas Woods , Councilman George Prude , Councilman and the following absent: none constituting a quorum, and among other proceedings had were the following: Councilman Mager introduced a resolution and order and moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Councilman Hamil and the motion carrying with it the adoption of the resolution and order prevailed by the following vote, AYES: 4 NOES: 0 The resolution is as follows: There came on to be considered the returns of an election held on the 20th day of June, 1970, for the purpose of electing the hereinafter named officials, and it appeared from said returns, duly and legally made, that there were cast at said election 248 valid and legal votes; that each proposition or candidate in said election received the following votes: COMMISSION TO FRAME A CITY CHARTER FOR: 163 AGAINST: 17 FOR CHARTEP COMMISSION Name of Candidate Total Number of Votes Received Jack R. Maxwell 120 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS: That said election was duly called; that notice of said election was given in accordance with law, and that said election was held in accordance with law, and that a majority vote was in favor of the proposi- tion, SHALL A COMMISSION BE CHOSEN TO FRAME A CITY CHARTER. Further, that fifteen members for a Charter Commission were elected, those being, in order of the number of votes cast: James H. Chaffee Leah P. North Jean Hurt H. W. Prengle, Jr. Edward 0. Luczkowski Said above named parties are hereby declared duly elected to said offices, subject to the taking of their oaths as provided by the laws of the State of Texas.
