A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD,
TEXAS REQUESTING THAT THE TEXAS
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (TXDOT)
UPGRADE THE PROPOSED SPAN WIRE- MOUNTED
EMERGENCY TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT FM 528 AND
WHITAKER DRIVE TO A MAST ARM-MOUNTED
EMERGENCY TRAFFIC SIGNAL, AND EXPRESSING
THE CITY'S COMMITMENT TO FUND THE
DIFFERENCE IN COST, 5AID COST TO BE
DETERMINED BY BIDS RECEIVED BY TXDOT FOR
THE PROJECT, AND PROVIDING FOR OTHER
MATTERS RELATING TO THE SUBJECT.
WHEREAS, the City of Friendswood has received a Highway Traffic Signal
Agreement for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for an emergency traffic
signal at the intersection of FM 528 and Whitaker Drive, said signal to be span wire-
mounted per TxDOT's design; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council has expressed its desire to upgrade the proposed
emergency signal to a mast arm-mounted design; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council has expressed its agreement to be responsible for the
cost difference between the span wire-mounted design and the mast arm-mounted design,
based on bids for the upgraded project that would be received by TxDOT; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD,
TEXAS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Friendswood hereby requests the Texas
Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to revise the design for the proposed emergency
traffic signal at FM 528 and Whitaker Drive from a span wire-mounted design to a mast
are-mounted design, and to begin the re-design for said signal installation.
Section 2. The City Council of the City of Friendswood hereby expresses it
agreement to be responsible for the cost difference between the span wire-mounted design
and the mast arm-mounted design as established by the bids for the project that would be
received by TxDOT, said cost difference being estimated at $45,000.00 by TxDOT.
Section 3. The City of Friendswood would enter into a revised Highway Traffic
Signal Agreement with TxDOT prior to the beginning of the project that would be
reflective of the project as herein requested, as well as the cost difference between the
original proposed design and the City's requested design.
Section 4. The City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to cause a certified
copy of this Resolution to be delivered to the Houston District Director of Transportation
for the Texas Department of Transportation.
