A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, CONDEMNING THE TEXAS MUl�TICIPAL
LEAGUE FOR PUBLISHING PERSONAL AND DEROGATORY
ATTACKS ON MEMBERS OF THE GROUP "AMERICANS FOR
PROSPERITY"; AND DIRECTING THE PRESENTATION OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE TEXAS
MUNICIPAL LEAGUE.

WHEREAS, the Texas Municipal League ("TML") is an organization comprised of
incorporated municipalities throughout the State; and
WHEREAS, the governing bodies of the cities that are members of TML are comprised
of individuals with varied opinions regarding the role of government; and
WHEREAS, an organization known as "Americans for Prosperity" ("AFP") has
promoted legislation to reduce appraisal caps and place restrictions on government revenue; and
WHEREAS, in an article entitled "Fringe Group Launch Anti-City Jihad," published on
February 20, 2007 in Texas Municipal League Online, TML refers to AFP as a "radical fringe"
group of"misguided extremists"with"fevered minds"; and
WHEREAS, publication by the staff of TML of personal attacks on individuals or
organizations because of their political ideals is outside the scope and purpose for which TML
was created, is inconsistent with the ideals of many of the individuals who comprise the TML
membership, and is, mare importantly, an appalling example to set when civility and respect for
the opinions of others is so difficult to establish and earn in public forums; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD,
TEXAS:
Section 1. The facts and matters set forth in the preamble of this Resolution are
hereby found to be true and correct.
Section 2. The City Council of the City of Friendswood wishes to express its outrage
and regret for the Article published on Texas Municipal League Online website, entitled "Fringe
Group Launches Anti-City Jihad," and requests that the Board of Directars of the Texas
Municipal League review this publication for compliance with policies and purposes of TML,
judge the appropriateness of such a publication in light of such policies and purposes, and take
necessary and appropriate action thereon.
Section 3. The City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to cause a certified
copy of this Resolution to be served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Municipal League,
with a copy hereof to be served on the group entitled"Americans for Prosperity."
PASSED,APPROVED,AND RESOLVED THIS 16TH DAY OF APRIL 2007.
