MINUTES OF A CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE MEETING THAT WAS HELD ON APRIL 13, 1994,
WITH THE FOLLOWING PRESENT, CONSTITUTING A QUORUM:

ABSENT FROM THE MEETING WERE MARY ELLEN BELLARD, ED HARRIS, PATSY RAUCH,
LAURIE WHITEHEAD, CAROLYN WRIGHT, AND LEO BRAUN.
MINUTES:
MINUTES WERE CORRECTED AND ACCEPTED AS PRESENTED.
FINANCE REPORT:
THE NEW COMPUTER GENERATED) FINANCE REPORT WAS ACCEPTED AS PRESENTED.
HISTORY BOOK:
ANN WOOD REPORTED THE CHURCH PRE-SALES WENT VERY WELL. DISCUSSION WAS HELD
REGARDING THE TIME FRAME FOR THE LAST PUSH FOR THE PRE-SALES WTLT, BE THE
LAST TWO WEEKS IN JUNE THROUGH THE FIRST OF JULY. ADVERTISING WILL BE
WORKED IN TO INCLUDE NEWSPAPERS AND MARQUEES. ANN WOOD SUGGESTED HAVING AN
INTRODUCTORY PARTY FOR THE HISTORY BOOK. MS. BAKER REPORTED THE BACK COVER
WILL INCLUDE THE ARCHITECT'S RENDITION OF THE NEW CITY HALL WITH THE
INSCRIPTION - "LOOKING TO THE SECOND CENTURY."
HUBERTA MORA STATED SHE HAD A RECOMMENDATION FOR THE INSCRIPTION OF THE
CLOCK ON THE FRONT OF THE NEW CITY HALL, "PROUD OF OUR PAST AND COMMITTED TO
OUR FUTURE."
POSTERS:
DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING POSTERS WHICH ARE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE AT
THE CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE, FRIENDSWOOD FRAME & GALLERY, CHAMBER OF
COMMERCE AND WITH CO-CHAIRS JANIS LOWE AND PHYLLIS LEE. SALES ARE
CONTINUING BUT ARE NOT AS MANY AS ANTICIPATED.

PINS:
DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING PINS WHICH CONTINUE TO BE SOLD AT A GOOD
RATE. COMMENTS WERE THAT THE PRICE AT $3.00 EACH OR 2 FOR $5.00 IS A GOOD
PRICE. NUMEROUS MEMBERS REQUESTED PINS TO SELL.
COMMITTEE LIAISONS
DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING THE HERITAGE MUSEUM SOCIETY WHICH HAS
REQUESTED TO SCHEDULE EVENTS FOR THE CENTENNIAL CALENDAR.
DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING THE LIONS CLUB TO SPONSOR THE CENTENNIAL
CALENDAR. THE LIONS CLUB MAY SETT, AD SPACES AND MAY USE COLORED PHOTOS FOR
THE CALENDAR. THE LIONS CLUB WILL NEED TO SUBMIT A "LETTER OF REQUEST" FOR
APPROVAL.
CO-CHAIRS LEE AND LOWE REPORTED THAT A REQUEST HAS BEEN MADE TO MAYOR NEWMAN
FOR THE CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE TO HOST THE GRAND OPENING FOR THE NEW CITY HALL
WITH A PROGRAM TO RECOGNIZE ALL PAST MAYORS AND COUNCILMEMBERS
CO-CHAIR LOWE RECOMMENDED A MAYOR'S WALL BE PLANNED WITH SEPIA PORTRAITS
PREPARED USING THE EXISTING PORTRAITS. PHOTOGRAPHERS WILL BE CONTACTED AS
TO HOW THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED, HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE, AND THE COST.
CO-CHAIR LEE REPORTED SHE HAS WRITTEN TO THE F.I.S.D. CLASS TO SUGGEST A
TIME CAPSULE TO BE OPENED THE SECOND 100 YEARS.
CO-CHAIR LOWE REPORTED ON A PROPOSED CENTENNIAL VILLAGE LOCATED ON 3.2 ACRES
ON F.M. 518, ACROSS FROM UNIPLEX. THE PROPOSAL WOULD BE TO RELOCATE THE
STEVENSON BUILDINGS ON THIS PROPERTY. THIS PROPERTY HAS BEEN DONATED BY
RALPH AND MARGE LOWE TO THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO MANAGE. THERE WOULD BE A
PROPOSAL TO DEVELOP CABINS AND A MUSEUM, AND POSSIBLY ALLOW RETAILERS TO
RENT SPACE AND POSSIBLY SERVE AS DOCENTS DURING THE WEEK. MS. LOWE REPORTED
THAT THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS LOOKING AT GRANTS AND MUST PROVE FINANCIAL
RESPONSIBILITY BEFORE THIS PROPOSAL CAN BE COMPLETED.
CO-CHAIR LEE REPORTED 20/30 LETTERS WILL BE SENT TO ORGANIZATIONS REQUESTING
THAT THEY SPONSOR CENTENNIAL PROJECTS AND OFFER ASSISTANCE IF NEEDED.
