MINUTES OF THE CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE MEETING THAT WAS
HELD ON WEDNESDAY. MARCH 1444 AT j30 EM AT UNIPLEX OFFICE
PARK, 1414 S. FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, WITH THE
FOLLOWING PRESENT CONSTITUTING A QUORUM:

CAROLYN WRIGHT.
CO-CHAIRMAN PHYLLIS LEE CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER.
MINUIIa OF JANUARY 12, 1994 WERE APPROVED AS SUBMITTED.
**JANIS LOWE MOVED FOR APPROVAL OF THE FINANCIAL REPORT AS
PRESENTED.
SECONDED BY KITTEN HAJECATE. MOTION APPROVED.
DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING THE HISTORY BOOK WITH ADVISORY
MEMBER JOYCE BAKER PROVIDING AN UPDATE. MS. BAKER REPORTED SHE
HAS RECEIVED THE GALLERY PROOFS FOR REVIEW, REPORTED THAT THERE
WILL BE ART WORK BY DR. JOHNNIE JOHNSON HEADING EACH CHAPTER.
MS. BAKER ADVISED THE HISTORY BOOK IS PROCEEDING ACCORDING TO
SCHEDULE.
DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING PRE-SALES OF THE HISTORY BOOK WITH
MR. JERRY SMITH PROVIDING AN UPDATE. MR. SMITH PRESENTED THE BACK
DROP TO BE USED FOR PRE-SALE EVENTS IN LOCAL BUSINESSES AND
EVENTS. DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING APRIL 1 BEING THE OFFICIAL
KICK OFF FOR THE PRE-SALES EVENT, HAVING ARTICLES PRINTED IN THE
NEWSPAPERS, CHURCH BULLETINS, HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION BULETINS,
MARQUES AND THE USE OF THE BACK DROP, DISCUSSED PLACING PRE-SALE
BACK DROP AT CENTRAL LOCATIONS AND EVENTS. ANN WOOD GRACIOUSLY
AGREED TO BE THE CONTACT PERSON FOR ALL THE CHURCHS. ANN WOOD
SUGGESTED POSSIBLY HAVE THE BACK DROP SET FOR PRE-SALES ON THE
SECOND SUNDAY IN APRIL.
THE COMMITTEE PREVIEWED THE ROUGH DRAFT OF THE HISTORY BOOK
BROCHURE TO BE MAILED TO ALL POST OFFICE BOXES, ALL CITIZENS AND
ALL BUSINESSES FOR ORDERING THE HISTORY BOOK. JANIS LOWE
REPORTED THERE WOULD BE APPROXIMATLEY 12,000 BROCHURES WITH A
COST OF APPROXIMATELY 4/5 CENTS EACH FOR PRINTING, $600 FOR
FOLDING AND LABELING AND 5 1/4 CENTS FOR POSTAGE.
**JERRY SMITH MOVED FOR APPROVAL TO MAIL APPROXIMATELY 12,000
HISTORY BOOK BROCHURES WITH AN APPROXIMATE COST OF $2,000 FOR
PRINTING, FOLDING, LABELING AND MAILING.
SECONDED BY ANN WOOD. MOTION APPROVED.
PHYLLIS LEE REPORTED THE POSTERS AND PINS ARE AVAILABLE AND ARE
SELLING AS REQUESTED. SEVERAL COMMITTEE MEMBERS REQUESTED BAGS
OF PINS TO SELL. DELORIS MCKENZIE REPORTED THAT A LARGE NUMBER
OF PINS HAVE BEEN SOLD TO THE CITY EMPLOYEES AND HAVE BEEN
PROVIDED FOR SOME COMMITTEES.
CO-CHAIRMEN PHYLLIS LEE AND JANIS LOWE REPORTED ON MEETING WITH
APPROXIMATELY TEN TO TWELVE LIAISONS FROM COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS
AND DISCUSSED CENTENNIAL IDEAS FOR PROJECTS. MS. LEE AND MS.
LOWE REPORTED THE MEETING WAS VERY PRODUCTIVE AND POSITIVE.
NUMEROUS IDES WERE DISCUSSED, SUCH AS, RE-DOING THE MAYOR'S
PICTURES IN SEPIA FOR THE NEW CITY HALL, PROMOTE THE CENTENNIAL
IN THE SCHOOLS, LIBRARY AND THROUGH THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY, WORK
WITH COMMUNITY APPEARANCE BOARD ON LANDSCAPING PROJECTS, NAME NEW
FISD SCHOOL FOR ZUE S. BALES, HOST RECEPTION FOR DEDICATION OF
NEW CITY HALL, HERITAGE GARDERNERS TO PROMOTE MEMBER OF MUM
FAMILY, ASK TEXAS ARTS TO FUND LIVING HISTORY PROGRAM, ASK
NEWSPAPERS TO RUN EXCERPTS ON FRONT PAGE AS TO WHAT WAS GOING ON
IN THE CITY ON EACH DAY DURING THE CENTENNIAL YEAR, REBURIAL OF
THE 100 YEAR CAPSULE AT THE LIBERTY TREE, ASK POST OFFICE TO DO
SOMETING DEPICTING HISTORY OF FRIENDSWOOD, HAVE ALL SCHOOLS, ALL
GRADES STUDY HISTORY OF FRIENDSWOOD FOR SIX WEEKS, HAVE STUDENTS
COME TO CLASS DRESSED IN PERIOD COSTUMES, HAVE FRIENDSWOOD HIGH
SCHOOL DO A PLAY DEPICTING HISTORY, BENNIE NIPPER IS DOING "THE
PROMISED LAND", ASK THE HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION TAKE ON A PROJECT
IN THEIR OWN COMMUNITY, ASK THE VARYING P.T.O'S GROUPS TAKE ON A
PROJECT, ASK PHONE COMPANY TO USE LAURIE WHITEHEAD'S PAINTING FOR
THE COVER OF THE PHONE BOOKS, ASK THE CHAMBER TO SPONSOR THE
REMAKE OF THE WOMANLESS WEDDING, LOOK INTO THE WHERABOUTS OF THE
VIDEO OF EYES OF TEXAS ON ZUE BALES AND LOOK INTO DOING A
CENTENNIAL CALENDAR.
ANN WOOD VOLUNTEER TO LOOK INTO THE POSSIBILITY OF A CENTENNIAL
CALENDAR.
DISCUSSION WAS HELD REGARDING THE SALE OF PROMOTIONAL ITEMS AND
TAKING HISTORY BOOK ORDER AT THE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION.
**JANIS LOWE MOVED TO APPROVE ED HARRIS SERVE AS CHAIR OF A SALES
COMMITTEE FOR THE PROMOTION OF CENTENNIAL ITEMS.

ANN WOOD, JERRY SMITH, JANIS LOWE AND DELORIS MCKENZIE
VOLUNTEERED TO HELP
HUBERTA MORA AND MARY ELLEN BELLARD VOLUNTEERED TO BE RESPONSIBLE
FOR BOOK SALES DURING HERITAGE DAY.
THE NEXT MEETING WAS SET FOR THE SECOND WEDNESDAY IN APRIL AT
5:30 PM.
