March 30, 1993
Minutes of a meeting of the Centennial Committee Meeting held on
March 30, 1993 at 7 : 00 p.m. at Uni-Plex Business Park, 1414 So.
Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas with the following present:
Phyllis Lee, Chairman
Huberta Mora Mary Ellen Bellard
Joyce Baker Laurie Whitehead
Ann Wood Carolyn Wright, ex-oficio
Lila Ritter Janis Lowe
Absent from the meeting were Kitten Hajecate and Deloris
McKenzie.
Phyllis Lee called the meeting to order. With the absent of
McKenzie, Lowe was appointed Secretary of the meeting.
There were no minutes to review or approve.
Joe Prihoda of Friendswood Frame and Gallery made a presentation
with regards to his recommendation for the appropriate framing of
the original Centennial painting. It was motioned by Lowe,
seconded by Ritter, to ratify a former telephone vote to purchase
a #23166 molding with a 4" mat and a protective plexiglass cover
for the purpose of framing the painting at a cost not to exceed
$800. 00. Motion passed.
The format of the finished poster was discussed. Graphic
lettering at the bottom of the poster will announce the poster
title Our Heritage, Our History, Friendswood, USA, Texas.
Further, it will show the Laurie signature and copyright as well
as the words, Commissioned by the Friendswood Centennial
Committee, and the years 1895-19T5. The estimated cost of these
graphics should not exceed $60.
The Committee then discussed printing costs, quanities, and
schedules. It was motioned by Bellard, seconded by Wood, to
authorize Whitehead to obtain two negatives and one half-tone of
the painting from Quantum Inc. at an estimated cost not to exceed
$250. 00. Further, Whitehead is to deliver the painting and
negatives to ASAP/Treaty Oaks Press for the purpose of obtaining
1000 posters and 4000 notecards as per the price quote so
attached. And lastly, the painting will be delivered to
Friendswood Frame for framing. Motioned passed.
Upon completion of these tasks, Lee will investigate the addition
of the painting to the City' s assets for the purpose of insurance
coverage.
It was motioned by Mora seconded by Lowe for McKenzie to request
payment for the balance of monies due Whitehead as per the
original agreement. The Committee is quite pleased with the
results of her work.
The Committee analyzed expenditures to date:
Whitehead Commission 4500
Negatives/Half-tone 250
Graphics on bottom 60
Printing of posters 2129
Framing 800
Murray emblem 250
Total Cost to be incurred $7 989
The emblem produced by Carl Murray was then discussed. Lowe
presented a variety of copies in different colors for the
Committee ' s decision. It was concluded the emblem will be printed
on a buff color laid paper with metallic gold letters and a sepia
(reddish brown) color for all other portions of the emblem.
McKenzie is asked to obtained printing estimates for this design
in the amount of 1000 increments.
It was motioned by Whitehead and seconded by Lowe to allow the
City to use the emblem on official City letterhead. Motion
passed. The Committee will invite the City Manager to the next
meeting for a discussion as to the City' s needs of the emblem and
an appropriate timetable of the same.
The Committee pursued the color design of the emblem as a
Centennial pin. Lee presented a variety of pins for comparison.
The Committee decided the pin will have the numbers in a royal
blue color, the banner white, and the letters in gold with a gold
rim surrounding the pin. Lee will bring a price quote for this to
the next meeting.
The Committee will meet again on Wednesday, April 21st, 1993 at
7 : 00 p.m. at Uni-Plex. At this meeting, the Committee will
attempt to formalize the schedule of Centennial events.
Having no further business to discuss the meeting adjourned at
8 : 45 p.m.
