4th of July Steering Committee
September 21, 2011
Minutes
A regular meeting of the Fourth of July Steering Committee was held on Wednesday,
September 21, 2011 at City Hall, located at 910 S Friendswood Dr. Friendswood,
TX 77546 at which time the following subject will be considered.
The following members and staff were present at the meeting:

Council Liasion: Dr. McGinnis
1. Called to order: The meeting was called to order 7:11 p.m.
2. Communications from the public: NA
3. Discussion and possible action regarding June 20, 2011 minutes: Nicole Morgan
made a motion to the approve the minutes as presented, Stacy Scarpa second the motion
and the motion was passed unanimously.
4. Discussion and possible action regarding the 2011, 4th of July Celebration:
A. Dignitary Breakfast: James Toney recommend Joes BBQ, Nicole Morgan
volunteered to be the chair of the dignitary breakfast.
B. Parade: Stacy Scarpa stated that a grand marshal and a theme need to be decided on.
Nicole made a motion that they adopt “The Sound of Freedom” for the 2012 4th of July
theme, Chris Scarpa second motion and the motion passed unanimously. Committee is
looking for suggestions for a Grand Marshal that is music related.
C. Day Program: James Toney stated that 22 pallets of St Augustine grass was installed
at the Compassionate Friend area at Stevenson park and Friendswood Firewood has
opened the canopy at Stevenson Park, Keep Friendswood Beautiful is constantly watering
the beds and grass. Stevenson Park on getting more wattage at the outlets, Gary Williams
stated no, this can’t be changed. Michelle Scarpa stated that we will elimate power strips.
Nicole suggested having a business or local organization serve food for lunch for the day
program. James Toney stated he will contact the rotary first to see if they are interested in
serving lunch for the day event before asking another business to serve food. Nicole
suggested having the high school band start off the day program. Chris Scarpa stated we
need more entertainment for older kids. Nicole Morgan suggested advertising the day
program and being proactive in the publicity as well. Committee suggested using radio
station and media coverage for the event. Nicole volunteered to create a sponsorship packet
and contact places of business to acquire sponsorships.
D. Evening Program: Tommy McDonald asked what type of music we are looking for
and asks James Toney if were using same stage and sound. James Toney suggested that
we should look for a 70s or 90s cover band, Nicole Morgan suggested to look for up and
coming bands.
5. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.
