HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2011-06-29 4th of July Steering Committee June 29, 2011 Minutes A regular meeting of the Fourth of July Steering Committee was held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at City Hall, located at 910 S. Friendswood Dr .,Friendswood TX 77546 at which time the following subject will be considered. The following members and staff were present at the meeting: Committee Member: Heather McDonald Committee Member: Dan Morgan Committee Member: Tommy McDonald Committee Member: Michelle Scarpa Committee Member: Renae Rives Committee Member: Stacy Scarpa Committee Member: Chris Scarpa Committee Member: Corey Kirkland Committee Member: Tony Scarpa Committee Member: Robin Hall Volunteer: Rachelle Vargas Chamber Liaison: Lucy Woltz Director of Community Services: James Toney Staff: Kimberly Ramirez Staff: Drew Pennywell Staff: Michael Boyett Staff: Gary Williams Police Department Liaison: Dennis Senter 1. Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. 2. Communications from the public: James Toney stated that we have received a lot of calls questioning the fireworks status and a few complaints on the city going forward with the Fireworks presentation on the 4th of July. Tommy McDonald stated that they are sending additional fire trucks in the fallout areas. Officer Senter stated they will have a patrol car on FM518 and on Stone Throw for Robin Hall to MC the parade. Officers will be stationed at Heritage and Pecan and everyone will be in position at 9:30a.m. PD will have deuce and a half at city hall at 7am the day of the 4th of July. Committee suggested no drop offs by parade participants at Shadwell. Committee informed PD that everyone with parking passes will be allowed in Centennial by 6:00pm. After 6pm they will need to enter from the Falcon Ridge entrance. All staff and committee members will park at the junior high. PD will be bringing the communications trailer to Centennial. James Toney stated that Friendswood will be featured on an ESPN Saturday radio show, their interviewing various cities that are having a fireworks show this year. 3. Discussion and possible action regarding June 15, 2011 minutes: Heather McDonald made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Stacy Scarpa second the motion and the motion was approved unanimously. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding the 2011, 4th of July Celebration. A. Dignitary Breakfast: Skip stated that we’re having a breakfast; staff breakfast will be at 7am. The breakfast will be sponsored by the Goddard School. B. Parade: A truck will be provided for judges. Stacy Scarpa stated that we have 59 entries. Stacy stated that there are only 2 entries at Captains Corners, Friendswood High School Band and the Wranglerettes and we have only received 1 horse entry. James Toney encourage the committee to attend the Gathering. C. Day Program: Michelle Scarpa stated that she has 44 applications for the day program. Vendors will park on Shadwell, and will block are in front of the Chamber to load off the Deuce and a half. Michael Boyett questioned if the liberty bell will pull into the City Hall Parking lot. Committee agreed to have the liberty bell come into the city hall parking lot. Dan Morgan informed the committee of the day program timeline. D. Evening: Dan Morgan informed the committee of the evening program timeline, all committee and staff will need to be there by 6pm. Food will be provided by Biraporittis for committee and staff. Will have to enter from the Falcon Ridge entrance after 6pm they will have until 7:15pm to enter form the back entrance, and the gate will be locked. At 7:30pm, the committee members will need to start unloading buses, and will need help with the walkers on Manison Rd by the junior high. Buses start running at 6:30pm, intro for evening event will be at 7:30pm. Sound check will start around 3 or 4pm. Will have lighting along Manison near the wooded area, in the middle of the parking lot and in between both shoots. All vendors to be staged up front by the concession stands. Drew Pennywell stated that Amoco will possibly have 2 wrapped vehicles at the event; committee suggested putting trucks on the hill by the amphitheater. Skydiving team was not able to be sponsored by Remax and we informed them we did not have $1500, so they offered to do it for $250, skydiving has been confirmed. The flyover will be scheduled after the skydive. Committee suggested loading 1 bus at a time, works out better. Michelle Scarpa suggested to have a holding area, will help with loading the buses. Dan Morgan stated that communications will be a little different this year. We will be using Nextel phones. The committee will be able to pick up the phones at the breakfast. Mosquitoes spraying are scheduled for 3 days up until the day of the event, Stevenson park ready, and have been treated for ants. Tommy McDonald suggested roping off the area by the soccer fields and falcon ridge. 5. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 8pm Approved by Kimberly Ramirez Date: 7/20/11
