HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2010-06-30 4th OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE JUNE 30, 2010 MINUTES A regular meeting of the Fourth of July Steering Committee was held on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at City Hall, located at 910 S Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, at which time the following subject will be considered. The following members and staff were present at the meeting: Michelle Scarpa Stacy Scarpa Tony Scarpa Tommy McDonald Rachel Williams Darrell Fales Dan Morgan Corey Kirkland Ken Turner Skip Redding Renae Rives Nicole Morgan Steve Pate Stefanie Karacostas Craig Kovacevich Drew Pennywell Staff Michael Boyett, Staff Josh Rogers, PD Kris Kern, Friendswood EMS Sandy Musgrove, volunteer Fred Musgrove, volunteer Director of Community Services: James Toney Kimberly Ramirez, Staff 1. Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 6:55 p.m. 2. Communications from the public: James Toney stated their will be a pop up tent at the park for the Medical/Information staging area. The Musgrove’s volunteer to man the booth. Kris Kerns, with Friendswood EMS stated suggested that the best way to get EMS respond to any situation is to call 911. Josh Rogers stated concern about the pedestrians and spectators at the one lane area under construction. Area will be blocked off and additional officers on foot with an orange fence set up at the area. Josh Rogers stated their will be 12 officers working the parade route along with bike officers. Motorcycles officers will be present on FM518; City will have the new road connectecting Falcon Ridge to FM518 closed. All dignitaries have been informed that there is no parking at Centennial; anyone allowed in Centennial to park will have parking passes. Corey Kirkland asked what is the best way to get in touch with PD, Josh Rogers stated to call his cell phone and he will also have a radio. 3. Discussion and possible action regarding June 2, 2010 minutes: Ken Turner made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected, Craig Kovacevich seconded the minutes and the minutes passed unanimously. 4. Discussion and possible action regarding the 2010, 4th of July Celebration: A. Dignitary Breakfast: Breakfast will be served at 7am for employees and committee members, Dignitary breakfast will start at 8am. B. Parade: Tony Scarpa stated that parade committee will meet at 8:30am Monday morning; route signs will be at the parade route this year. Due to the drainage project on Friendswood Dr. their will be a lane and a half from Echo-Castlewood, all parade entries will be measured. A fence will be set up at this area and no one is allowed to view the parade from this area. Josh Rogers stated that there is a big safety issue in having parade viewers sit on the curb with their feet on the street. Tony Scarpa really stressed safety with the construction and will try to get other volunteers to help out in patrolling this area. Corey Kirkland suggested that if any committee members see any issues with the route, to please bring it up before the parade. Josh Rogers stated that FM518 will not be opened until all parade traffic is off the parade route. Corey Kirkland stated that if a committee member checks out a gator, only drive on the opposite side of the street and come back on Quaker. Street painting will be at 3pm.on Saturday, 4 gators will be needed. Sunday the rest will be signed out. The fly over for the parade will be done by Chuck Conway. Judging of the bikes will be at 9:15. C. Day Program: Michelle Scarpa stated the park will be painted at noon; The Chamber entrance and Shadwell will be barricaded. All booth assignments will be handled out at 5pm. Will need 4 parking spots reserved for dignitary cars at Stevenson. Horse will be routed to Old City Park. When horse participants are called for the parade, they will need to have someone meet them at OCP with a trailer. The Liberty Bell float carrying the Grand Marshall will be parked in front of city hall. Have vendors set up at the park on Sunday, if the park is too wet the day program will be set up at the City Hall parking lot. D. Evening program: Dan Morgan stated that the committee members need to be at Centennial by 6pm. The plan is to have the band play to the field, but Sunday morning the decision will be made weather to change the stage. Dan Morgan suggested to committee members to car pool or take the Mary Queen shuttle to limit cars parking at Centennial. The pond and trail area needs to be patrolled to make sure no one is at this area due to snakes, encouraged all committee members to be on the lookout. Remax skydiving team will be presenting the colors for the night. The end of the program is currently undecided, but suggested to have all committee members help with loading buses. There is a time change on the itinerary due to an equipment change out with the band. All radios need to go to Corey Sunday night to charge for Monday. 5.
