4th OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE
JUNE 2, 2010
MINUTES
A regular meeting of the Fourth of July Steering Committee was held on Wednesday,
June 2, 2010 at City Hall, located at 2200 S Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, at
which time the following subject will be considered.
The following members and staff were present at the meeting:

1. Call to order: Meeting was called to order at 6:14 p.m.
2. Communications from the public: Marietta Benson stated she will volunteer to take
care of the horse entries and check all of their coggins reports.
3. Discussion and possible action regarding April 21, 2010 minutes: Nicole Morgan
made a motion to approve the minutes as presented, Chris Scarpa second the motion and
the motion passed unanimously.
4. Discussion and possible action regarding the 2010, 4th of July Celebration.
A. Dignitary Breakfast: No discussion, table.
B. Parade: Kimberly Ramirez stated that they have 19 parade entries as of today. One
astronaut has been confirmed as grand marshal. James Toney informed the committee
that he met with TXDOT concerning the drainage project on Friendswood Dr. As of
today Stones threw Castlewood are closed to one lane of traffic. The retainer walls will
be an issue and far as closing the street to one lane. Committee stated that we will have
to inform the bands and other entries that the parade will closed to one lane. James
Toney suggested having a staff member or committee member staged at Stones Throw to
help with the parade flow. Nicole Morgan reminded staff to call Buzbee for permission
to use property at Comerica and fix drainage in front of the area.
C. Day Program: Timeline is tentative; chamber raffle will be at 4pm. This year 2
bands will be performing at the day program. Break Park down will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Trash can band is not confirmed.
D. Evening program: Committee needs to be in the park by 6pm. Charles Lett with
Alpha Lee attended the meeting and will be taking care of the fireworks. The flyover is
scheduled for 7:20p.m. Friendswood Historical Society will raffle a quilt. Sounds and
lights will be taken care of by the stage and sound company. Dan Morgan encouraged
committee members to police the lake area and will need everyone available to help load
the buses. The Mora Spirit Award was voted on by committee, and the recipient this year
will be the Goddard School. Their will be a new award this year named the Evelyn B
Newman service award which will be awarded to Tommy McDonald. Next meeting on
the 30th of June.
5. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 6:46 pm.
