HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2022-06-15 CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD FOURTH OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15, 2022 – 6:00PM MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD FOURTH OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE THAT WAS HELD ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15, 2022, IN THE SECOND FLOOR CONFERENCE ROOM AT FRIENDSWOOD CITY HALL LOCATED AT 910 S. FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, WITH THE FOLLOWING PRESENT CONSTITUTING A QUORUM: CHAIR BARBARA BLANCHARD COMMITTEE MEMBER CHRIS SCARPA COMMITTEE MEMBER TONY SCARPA COMMITTEE MEMBER STACY SCARPA DAY CHAIR MICHELLE BJACEK COMMITTEE MEMBER STEPHANIE KARACOSTAS COMMITTEE MEMBER TERRY MCKEE COMMITTEE MEMBER KATHY MOLINARO COMMITTEE MEMBER LARRY SIMS COMMITTEE MEMBER NANCY SIMS COMMITTEE MEMBER TERRI CORBETT COMMITTEE MEMBER LINDSEY VAUGHN COUNCIL MEMBER JOHN SCOTT JAMES TONEY, DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION KIMBERLY RAMIREZ ASSISTANT TO THE DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION MICHEAL BOYETT ASSISTANT DIRECTOR PF PARKS AND RECREATION NATALIE POFFENBERGER, RECREATION ASSISTANT 1. Call to Order Chairperson Barbara called the meeting to order at 5:58PM. 2. Public Comment Barbara inquired if the Corvette Club was secured for the event. Toney confirmed the Corvette Club was confirmed and will be supplying cars for the 4th of July Parade. 3. Minutes Kathy motion to approve the minutes from the April 20, 2022, meeting, seconded by Larry, and approved unanimously. 4. Business Items A. 4th of July Breakfast Lindsey reported everything is ready for the 4th of July Breakfast. Decorations, runners, silverware, plates, and cookies have been purchased. Set up is also secured with several volunteers who will assist with decorating. B. 4th of July Parade Stacy stated that the parade lineup will be finished closer to the event. She also stated that at this time there are 74 entries for the Parade. C. 4th of July Day Program Toney informed the committee that due to price increases he was unable to secure radios. Instead, the Parks and Recreation department will supply the 10 radios that the department already possesses. 4-6 of the radios will be need at the event. The other committee members will use their cell phones in lieu of radios. Toney also stated the importance of keeping all vehicles off the track. Barbara inquired to the number of vendors. Natalie informed the committee that at the time there are 38 vendors total secured for the event. Kim reminded the committee there is a non-mandatory vendor meeting at Stevenson on Sunday July 3rd. D. E. Evening Program Toney stated that the Kettle Corn vendor would like to be set up at the same spot as last time near the Amphitheater. Mora Spirit Award & Evelyn B. Newman Award The committee proceeded to write down the names of the businesses and individuals they would like to vote for to win the awards. Barbara clarified that the Mora Spirit award is for an organization while the Evelyn B. Newman award is for an individual. Kathy nominated Stacy for the Evelyn B. Newman award. Lonestar Squadron was nominated by several committee members for the Mora Spirit award. The committee unanimously approved both nominations and unanimously voted them as the winners. 5. Adjournment Larry motioned to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Terry and unanimously approved. Meeting adjourned at 6:20PM.
