HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2022-08-17CITY OF FRIENDSWOOD FOURTH OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 17, 2022 – 6:00PM MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE FRIENDSWOOD FOURTH OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE THAT WAS HELD ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 20, 2022, IN THE FIRST FLOOR COUNCIL CHAMBERS AT FRIENDSWOOD CITY HALL LOCATED AT 910 S. FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS, WITH THE FOLLOWING PRESENT CONSTITUTING A QUORUM: CHAIR BARBARA BLANCHARD COMMITTEE MEMBER - EVENING CHAIR RUFINO RAMIREZ COMMITTEE MEMBER CHRIS SCARPA COMMITTEE MEMBER – ASSISTANT EVENING CHAIR TONY SCARPA COMMITTEE MEMBER, TOMMY MCDONALD COMMITTEE MEMBER – PARADE CO-CHAIR STEFANIE KARACOSTAS COMMITTEE MEMBER TERRY MCKEE COMMITTEE MEMBER STACY SCARPA COMMITTEE MEMBER MICHELLE BJACEK COMMITTEE MEMBER TERRY CORBETT COUNCIL MEMBER JOHN SCOTT COMMITTEE MEMBER KATHY MOLINARO COMMITTEE MEMBER NANCY SIMS JAMES TONEY, DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION KIMBERLY RAMIREZ, ASSISTANT TO THE DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION CATHERINE WOOD, RECREATION MANAGER OF PARKS AND RECREATION GARRETT NORMOYLE RECREATION SPECIALIST OF PARKS AND RECREATION MICHAEL BOYETT ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION NATALIE MAYFIELD, RECREATION ASSISTANT 1. Call to Order Barbara called the meeting to order at 6:01pm 2. Communications from the Public 3. Minutes A. c c Consider approving the minutes of the Fourth of July Steering Committee meeting held on June 15, 2022. Kathy motioned to approve the minutes. Seconded by Michelle and unanimously approved. 4. BUSINESS ITEMS A. Discuss and take possible action regarding tasks, duties, schedules, and/or assignments associated with the Fourth of July Event Breakfast. Barbara stated that Stacy will oversee the breakfast next year with Barbara assisting (co-chair). Larry motioned to approve this decision. Seconded by Michelle and unanimously approved. Barbara mentioned that the amount of food ordered be decreased from 150 to around 75. B. Discuss and take possible action regarding tasks, duties, schedules, and/or assignments associated with the Fourth of July Event Parade. Stefanie reported that a theme will need to be selected. At a later time, she plans to redo the parade map route. The committee discussed possibly live streaming the parade. They will further discuss at a future meeting. Kathy suggested “Traveling in the USA” as the parade theme. Stacy motioned that the theme of the 2023 Fourth of July parade be “Traveling in the USA.” Seconded by Larry and unanimously approved. C. Discuss and take possible action regarding tasks, duties, schedules, and/or assignments associated with the Fourth of July Event Day Program. Michelle mentioned that she would also like to revamp the vendor map. Stefanie requested that a single, large map would be made to help visitors to the event locate where all the vendors are located. A QR that leads to an online map was also suggested. D. Discuss and take possible action regarding tasks, duties, schedules, and/or assignments associated with the Fourth of July Event Evening Program. Rufino reported that it would cost $25,000 to secure the same band that played in 2022 (Party Crashers.) Toney reported that he has a potential sponsor for $5000. The Committee would pay for the final $20,000. Larry motioned to select Party Crashers as the band for 2023 pending the sponsorship with Molly Ringwalds as the backup choice. Seconded by Terry and unanimously approved. The additional cost for the soundstage lighting and other necessary items have already been budgeted for. It was suggested that this year some parking spots at Centennial be auctioned off to the public and the proceeds for the event. Toney said he will run the suggestion by the City’s Attorney to ensure there is no legal issue regarding this. Barbara requested that Toney also inquired if there were any legal issues regarding the Committee fundraising for the event. Kim suggested that a committee member help instruct vendors at the evening program to avoid any issues. Tony volunteered for the position. 5. Adjournment Barbara stated the next meeting will be in January. The meeting was adjourned at 6:37pm.
