HomeMy WebLinkAboutFourth of July Steering Committee Minutes 2008-10-15October 15, 2008 FORTH OF JULY STEERING COMMITTEE A regular meeting of the Forth of July Steering Committee was held on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the 2nd floor conference room, located at 910 S Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, at which time the following subject will be considered. The following members and staff were present at the meeting: Anthony Scarpa Skip Redding Robin Hall Renae Rives Darrell Fales StephanieScarpa Stacy Scarpa Michelle Scarpa Craig Kovacivich Minh Tanita Christine Scarpa James Toney, Director of Community Services Michael Boyett, Staff Kimberly Ramirez, Staff Jim Barr, City Council Liason Lucy Woltz, Chamber Liason 1. Call to order: The meeting was called or order at 7:40 p.m. 2. Communication from the public/committee liaisons: NA 3. Minutes: Robin Hall made a motion to approve the minutes as corrected, Stephanie Scarpa seconded the minutes and the minutes were approved unanimously. A. Parade: Darrell Fales stated Windsor EMS had complaints against them due to having their sirens too loud during the parade. B. Day Program: Jim Barr questioned if day program can be delayed until later in the afternoon and have program at Centennial due to the rainout the past couple of years. Committee stated that they thought of the idea, but parking will be a problem at Centennial Park and the location at Stevenson is a natural ending to the end of the parade, it’s been tradition for many years. C. Evening Program: Darrell Fales stated the Bellamy Brothers have been signed for the evening entertainment for the2009 4th of July event. Their rider is requesting spot lights on the stage this year. Darrell Fales questioned if the stage should stay in the same area as last year, and committee agreed. Committee requested to have parking passes for the evening program to cut down on parking at the Centennial Park. Committee would like to add year to parking passes and limit the amount of passes handed out by keeping a list. Committee would like to have a Liaison from FISD transportation present at meetings and also have them present the night of the program. Jim Barr requested to change the position of the handicap pickup location. Committee would like to change the layout of the bus route at Centennial to prevent people from walking in front of the buses and prevent parking of police cars and city trucks by the buses, which slow down the flow of the buses. Jim Barr requested to have police at the FM528 and FM518 intersection to help the flow of traffic after the event is over. Lucy Woltz questioned if the Bellamy Brothers could play after the fireworks. D. Budget: James Toney stated that the band will be costing $15,000. 5. Adjournment: Michelle Scarpa made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Craig Kovacivich seconded, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 Approved by: Kimberly Ramirez Date __1-21-09________
